Watched Real Steel this weekend on a recommendation from my gson.

Rocky for robots, so it was pretty predictable. But otherwise a fun movie, worth a rental if you're looking for something unchallenging.

I don't know anyone personally who has but I've read/heard mostly bad things about it...I'm in the middle of reading the book and can hardly imagine Depp doing a bad job with anything Hunter Thompson...I think the main complaint about it is that it's drab and slow maybe, I kind of enjoy that about the book...I plan on checking it out as soon as I finish the book, but was just curious if anyone here has seen it yet?

I really hate to be one of these hipster-ish fellows, but the book is light years better than the movie. The movie changed a ton of things, and left a lot just plain out.

I read the Rum Diaries a while back... would've been more interesting if it had been named the Sex Diaries and the main character had sex as much as he drinks rum. just my trashy opinion. the book was meh so how could the movie be much more? probably holds some nostalgia for Thompson fans as it was his first book written at the tender age of 22 or 23...

i've been on a movie watching rampage lately:
Water for Elephants
The Help
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The Lovely Bones

All  films. All worth seeing.

^I'm interested in Tinker, Tailor...looks right up my alley. I'll probably get into more movies once all these playoff games end...I always go on these movie spurts in the summer.

This was pretty funny. I have Dish Network and just started doing the Blockbuster@home thing. Kinda like Netflix. I streamed this one the other night.

Also streamed this one, I remember getting this on VHS from the local movie store when I was a kid.

Since when was it hipster-ish to read a book?

It is to complain about how the book is so much better than the movie.

And 30 Minutes or Less was horrible.

Great Swedish/Danish crime drama. I was never really into crime drama's until Forbrydelsen ("The Killing") came along, which blew me away. I had my doubts before I started watching this one thinking its a "cash in" series on the tail of The Killing. Totally not. Once I got over the fact that Sarah Lund is not part of this story I was treated to 10 hour of impeccable TV viewing. Loved the intro music too. I'd recommend it if you are used to subtitles...definitely worth it. I love how danish TV doesn't seem to follow the norms, things don't get wrapped up in an obvious package. It really gets you involved a lot more into the story when you can't predict how everything is going to pan out.

Probably one of the best US TV shows in a long long time IMO. There is not a bad word I can say about it. Brilliant story-line, fantastic acting all round... I was glued. Probably my favourite US show in well over a decade.

Although not technically a movie, I purchased Season 2 of Downton Abbey for Marie as a Mother's Day present. We watched the last two episodes of Season 1 to reminds ourselves of where everything ended off, and watched the first episode of S2 last night.

Didn't disappoint at all. Maggie Smith still has the best lines and the drama is still top notch.

I saw The Avengers on Saturday and I liked it a lot. I mean it isn't masterful storytelling or anything but Tony Stark/Iron Man is so arrogant I have to laugh.

^^There is an 90 minute Christmas special after season 2. Just so you know. It would be pretty crucial to watch before season 3 starts.

Good tip. I don't eatch it but my parents do. I'll let them know.

And Homeland...all the best shows are on premium cable. Argh.

I looked it up...PBS apparently aired it in February this year. Guess we'll have to find other ways to get it.
